Purpose
Class helps performers (and teachers of performers) communicate the whole range of their humanity with vocal freedom and power.
Voice One
Fitzmaurice Voicework Fundamentals:
covers the fundamentals of opening the breathing and freeing and supporting the voice. Designed for students who have completed the introductory workshop or who have had some private training. After 2 - 6 months in this class, students usually transfer into Voice Two.
Voice Two
Fitzmaurice Voicework (ongoing): addresses standing up in the fullness of your experience and communicating with others through the voice. It moves between "Destructuring" to encourage a deep connection with oneself, emotional openess, and vocal freedom; "Structuring" to encourage a focused and flexible voice enabling communication with others that comes from the core; and Play to explore the work in different contexts. This class also applies the work to real world contexts such as auditions.
See the About This Work page for more info on the work.
Voice Three
Expanding Your Voice:
this ongoing class combines Fitzmaurice Voicework, Richard Seyd's "Stretch" work (see links), and other techniques which expand the range of humanity that actors can experience and express. An additional benefit of this class is that it organically expands the range of each actor's casting.
Physical
Work and Physical Limitations
Class can be physically demanding
(similar to an intermediate yoga class).
Some physical limitations can be accommodated.
Prerequisites
for Study
To take the classes, you need prior experience with the
Fitzmaurice approach.
For those without prior experience, Saul teaches introductory
workshops every
couple months. If you want to get started
faster, or you prefer more individual attention, you may begin with private coaching and
transfer into the classes after four to ten lessons.
If you have prior experience with another Fitzmaurice teacher, you'll need to take one private session with Saul so he can see how you're working and you can familiarize yourself with his approach. If you prefer, you're welcome to do an introductory workshop instead.
